Many DJs make great entertainers, but when it comes to understanding their trade or selling their services, they sometimes miss out on opportunities to convert an enquiry into a booking. Cries of working in the trade for decades and inadvertently turning complacent (and without knowing it) can sometimes hinder the chances of enhancing the way DJs operate. Since joining the NADJ, I have utilised the experience, knowledge and skills of my fellow members to develop and expand my own business. I have taken full advantage of the networking and abilities of other professional operators to diversify and turn a job I thoroughly enjoy into a success story. However, I have set myself a target of not getting complacent and I am always on the look-out to develop my skills. It is for this reason that I signed up to the ‘Wedding Marketing for DJs’ workshop. |

Many DJs want to use as many avenues as possible to promote their business and one of the ways to highlight your services is to use Social Networking sites like Facebook. The NADJ often gets calls and e-mails asking for help on this subject and through our contacts and knowledge base of professional DJs, we are usually able to help or point the member in the right direction.
When it comes to Facebook, the uninitiated may not know that there are some unwritten rules that pass as Facebook etiquette. There are also so many options and features within Facebook that it's easy for the new user to get confused. So, with the kind permission of Helen 'The Queen of Social Networking' Lee at Mastermix, we have bundled together some of her top tips and tricks on how to make Facebook work for you and how to do it without upsetting other users. These documents are in the 'Benefits' section of the NADJ website and if you follow the guidance from Helen, we are sure that you will be able to make a success of promoting your business through sites like Facebook. |

The next release in the highly popular NOW compilation disc hits the shop shelves and digital download stores later this month. NOW 76 is available for pre-order and gets a formal release on July 19th 2010. For many years the Now That’s What I Call Music release has been regarded as a staple purchase for the working DJ. EMI Music has always tried to fit in a wide selection of music - it is also one of the few compilations to be updated twice yearly and to to have stood the test of time. |

Tickets for Europe’s largest DJ exhibition are now on sale. More than 4,000 visitors attended BPM 2009 and the show will return to the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) in Birmingham from Saturday 2nd October to Monday 4th October. The organisers of BPM decided to extend the show for an extra day that will allow hard-working DJs to earn their wages throughout the weekend and take up the chance to visit the show on the Monday. Advanced tickets are now available from The Ticket Factory who handle many of the ticket sales for other exhibitions at the NEC. Entry tickets for the three-day event cost £10 (plus a 50p transaction fee) and can be purchased over the phone or online. |

NADJ members in the London area have picked up the gauntlet and have announced that they would like to start up a branch in the capital city. Many DJs have requested this, but it's always proved difficult getting the members to take on the responsibility of building an NADJ branch from the ground up. NADJ member, Tony Winyard, has created a Facebook page and he has started promoting the branch. He has the full backing and support of the NADJ and our team are working with Tony other members in the London area to get the ball rolling. Tony commented on their new Facebook page: "Our aim is to see a good number of DJs in the London area joining and us helping them to raise their game in terms of professionalism, skills, business practices, and increasing their income, regardless of their age or experience. Another aim is to encourage some young DJs and help them start up by getting into the right habits from early on." |
