Review: Wedding Marketing for DJs Workshop
Many DJs make great entertainers, but when it comes to understanding their trade or selling their services, they sometimes miss out on opportunities to convert an enquiry into a booking.  Cries of working in the trade for decades and inadvertently turning complacent (and without knowing it) can sometimes hinder the chances of enhancing the way DJs operate.
Since joining the NADJ, I have utilised the experience, knowledge and skills of my fellow members to develop and expand my own business.  I have taken full advantage of the networking and abilities of other professional operators to diversify and turn a job I thoroughly enjoy into a success story.
However, I have set myself a target of not getting complacent and I am always on the look-out to develop my skills.  It is for this reason that I signed up to the ‘Wedding Marketing for DJs’ workshop.

The Value Of A Wedding DJ (Member Article)

NADJ Member Tony Winyard writes about his thoughts on the DJ/Disco/Wedding Entertainment sector. We've received some great feedback on the articles from Tony Winyard who is passionate about the DJ profession and he is also playing a part in organising our NADJ London branch.  If you would like to comment on any of Tony's thoughts, please add your comments to the bottom of each story.  His latest blog details the true value of hiring a Wedding DJ for such an important and memorable day:

When two people get engaged and then begin planning a wedding it can at first seem extremely daunting, faced with the enormity of organising such a huge event, and very often without any experience of organising anything this big.  It is very easy for it to get quite overwhelming especially with all the advice, much of it conflicting, that is offered by so many people. There is just so much to do and what to do first?  It can quickly get quite stressful.

With so much to do, the entertainment can easily get overlooked in the early stages.  Additionally as most people will never have booked entertainment before, that can be another reason to put it off because of not being sure how to go about finding the right entertainment.

BPM 2010 Tickets On Sale

BPM 2010

Tickets for Europe’s largest DJ exhibition are now on sale.  More than 4,000 visitors attended BPM 2009 and the show will return to the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) in Birmingham from Saturday 2nd October to Monday 4th October.

The organisers of BPM decided to extend the show for an extra day that will allow hard-working DJs to earn their wages throughout the weekend and take up the chance to visit the show on the Monday.

Advanced tickets are now available from The Ticket Factory who handle many of the ticket sales for other exhibitions at the NEC.  Entry tickets for the three-day event cost £10 (plus a 50p transaction fee) and can be purchased over the phone or online.

Action On Hearing Loss - Loud Music Campaign

Back at BPM in October 2011, we had a good chat with some of the representatives from Action On Hearing Loss - the new name for the Royal National Institute for Deaf people (RNID).  DJs regularly come in contact with loud music and for prolonged periods of time and we could all be damaging our hearing.

Action On Hearing Loss not only help those affected by hearing problems, but they also offer practical advice to help people protect their hearing.  They also support research into an eventual cure for hearing loss or tinnitus.

The team have been back in touch with us here at the National Association of Disc Jockeys (NADJ) to highlight their latest campaign that involves celebrities and musicians who have been directly affected by the business they work in or who are actively taking measures to stop hearing loss because they work in the entertainment sector.

The Action On Hearing Loss website is a great source of information on how people (including DJs) can be affected by loud music/sounds at home or at work.  There's a section that's appropriate for DJs called: Hearing Loss From Loud Music

20% Off Your .DJ Domain!

If you're looking for something a little different to the standard .co.uk. or .com web domains, why not go for one of the new .dj addresses?  Only certain registrars can administer the .dj domains and we have a very special offer for NADJ members.

DJ Domains are offering a 20% discount for the month of May 2012 for all domain names purchased by our members.  You can purchase your .dj domain for £40 per year, rather than the current price of £49.99.  The price of many domains are set by the country that has been issued their own web address.  We searched for the best price for a .dj domain and the generous offer through DJ Domains was the cheapest we could find.  This domain is the country code for Djibouti.

It's also worth noting that NADJ members get free web hosting for one website as a benefit of membership.  So, once your domain has been purchased, simply fill in the form in the 'Members' section of the site and we will set aside the online storage space for you to host your website.  Once you have your web hosting details, you then point the DJ Domains .dj address to our server.  It may sound daunting, but it's quite easy to get this set up.
