NADJ Guide To Copyright & Plagiarism
Sometimes there's a need to re-publish and promote issues directly affecting our members.  Over the past few months, we've received requests for advice when our members have discovered other DJs copying content from their website.  We've also found quite a few DJs claiming to be a member of the National Association of Disc Jockeys on their website when it either lapsed years ago or they've never actually been a member!
The NADJ logo is copyrighted and we are contacting website owners to verify their right to use the logo.  In many cases, the polite e-mail has resulted in the logo being removed, but we've also had no reply or action from certain DJs.  Further action will follow in those cases and it is highlighted in this article: Improper Use Of The NADJ Logo
Some DJs are still using the old NADJ logo on their site and we've asked them to update it and also link it directly to their profile because an active profile on our Find A DJ section verifies that they are a member and have valid, PAT and insurance in place.

Breaking The Ice (Member Article)

NADJ Member Tony Winyard writes about his thoughts on the DJ/Disco/Wedding Entertainment sector. In the latest blog from Tony Winyard, he delves into the issue of 'breaking the ice' and interacting with the guests:

"At many weddings, it’s often only the bride and bridegroom, plus 1 or 2 other people that will know almost everyone attending and there are usually many guests that don’t know many of the other guests. For the gregarious and extroverts this isn’t a problem as they have no problem in just starting conversations with all and sundry but many people are quite a bit more reserved and don’t find that so easy.

There are a number of ways to break the ice and help your friends and family members very quickly and easily get to know those they haven’t yet met. One way is to have a Receiving Line, a tradition that is quite common in the USA but happens rarely at most UK weddings.

New Additions To The NADJ Team

Mark Weller has taken on the role of National Co-ordinator for the National Association of Disc Jockeys.     Paul Thompson has been appointed the NADJ Benefits Officer for the National Association of Disc Jockeys.

We are pleased to announce that two long-standing and pro-active members of the National Association of Disc Jockeys have taken up positions on the NADJ Committee.  The two DJs are well known in the Wales area because they are both a part of the team who have successfully looked after that branch for many years.

We are proud to welcome on-board Mark Weller and Paul Thompson to the national Committee.  Mark plays a part in organising the Wales branch and he has for a long time been given the title of the 'Grandfather of the NADJ.'  He's always a great resource for knowledge, experience, information and he is always someone you can turn to for help.  He has taken up the position of National Co-ordinator and he will deal with many aspects of an organisation that's currently growing by more than 25% per year.

Paul is the Vice-Chairman of the Wales branch and he is taking on-board the role of Benefits Officer.  Paul is the ideal candidate to take up that position because he works closely with many companies to get discounts, special offers and benefits in his job.  He's hoping to get similar deals for our members and expand the already comprehensive list of benefits our members receive.

Improper Use Of The NADJ Logo

The NADJ Logo is copyrighted and only Full Members are permitted to use the logo on their promotional materials. The NADJ is clamping down on those unscrupulous DJs who are not members and who try to gain kudos with their potential customers.

So time for a rant then... we've been doing some investigations regarding improper use of our logo on websites where the DJ hasn't been a member since 2008 etc., or they've never been a member at all.
There was a lot, more than I expected.
As our logo is copyrighted if we get no joy, then we'll be contacting the hosting companies involved to have the content/site removed.  I hate having to be the heavy handed but it really gets my back up on behalf of our membership, as we try our damnedest to be the best we can for our members.
We try to promote them as much as we can and then some companies come along and use the logo without any commitment or support for the NADJ, just to gain some ill gotten kudos off the back of our hard work.
We also found some photoshopped insurance documentation with our logo on it, well, good look claiming on that one!
