NADJ North East & Cumbria Branch Meeting & AGM (Tuesday 27th January 2015)
NADJ North East & Cumbria branch of the National Association of Disc Jockeys
On Tuesday 27th January 2015, the NADJ North East & Cumbria branch of the National Association of Disc Jockeys (NADJ) held their bi-monthly meeting that was also their AGM.
After several years at the helm of the branch, Chris Dye and Andrew Nesbit, left their roles on the branch committee. The duo were thanked for all of their efforts and hard work they both put in over the years. The appreciative DJs in attendance gave them a well deserved round of applause.
As the branch committee stood down (as they do every year), the new branch representatives were elected with no objections:
  • Branch Chairman: Gary Kenny
  • Branch Secretary: Jamie Daniels
  • Branch Treasurer: Mark Ambrose
Due to circumstances beyond the control of the branch, Chauvet DJ couldn't attend, but their representative, Rob Moore, passed on his sincere apologies and made a generous donation to the raffle. We hope to see rob and the Chauvet products on show at our branch meeting in the not too distant future.
We did have the pleasure of Andrew Dykes from Paladin Innovations with his ever-growing range of DJ booths and bespoke products that included the much talked about mirror ball adapter/kit for booths/stands. Andy had come a very long way to be at the meeting and it was noted just over two years had passed since he was last in the North East to demonstrate his products to DJs at our gathering.
Andy had the popular Dual Booth, Case Booth, mirror ball bracket and a whole host of other stands, black and white cloths (with and without LEDs) and some of his bespoke items that he'd designed and created for DJs.
Our supporting retailer, Mike Stead from Phase One in Darlington, took charge of the sound and lighting equipment demonstrations. He used the FBT X-Lite speaker that was on show at our last meeting and we only needed a single unit for the sound element. He used a new to the market 2.4Ghz Proel cordless microphone that combined with the FBT Audio UK speaker was a fantastic combination for great sound. Everyone noted that even when directly in front of the speaker, there was absolutely no feedback. Mike said that he thought it could be a combination of a quality microphone and a quality speaker that worked so well.
On the lighting front, Mike demonstrate the Chauvet GigBAR™ IRC and the attendees were a little sceptical, but many commented that it was much better than they thought it was going to be. Many of the DJs started to adapt their mindset to the types of event that they would use that light bar (with stand) with a good range of very well programmed sequences. The effect has been a real winner for Chauvet and we can see why.

If you look at the pictures with Mike demonstrating the lighting effects, you may see some retro-looking lightboxes. He brought them along and that resulted in some good natured banter and a few DJs rubbing their eyes because they were that bright!
The educational content was provided by Gary Kenny who addressed a concern that had been raised by DJs at a previous meeting. Some DJs didn't know how to set up and use Twitter to its full potential and Gary went through the basics to help them decide if it's something that they wish to adopt for the business marketing. For your reference, we have some notable Twitter accounts you may want to follow:
The night was rounded off with the raffle and the star prize was the roll of gaffa tape... along with the lighting effect donated by Chauvet!
Before we sign off on this synopsis of the January 2015 NADJ North East branch meeting, there is another note of thanks to Paul Ferry and his wife Julie Ferry. The couple had just enough time to hand craft the illuminated 'NADJ' letters and get them into the venue. It was a brilliant surprise and the gesture was really appreciated - thank you Julie and Paul!
